Training Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

General

·        The Training Assistant Senior Patrol Leader reports to the Senior Patrol Leader and coordinates with the Scoutmaster.

·        Training Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is a key position requiring a minimum of 70% attendance.  Due to the nature of your position, close to 100% attendance will be anticipated with few exceptions.  If you are unable to perform a job function, it is your responsibility to find and designate a trained and qualified replacement, and to notify the Senior Patrol Leader of the change before the date of that function.

·        As a key Troop position, you must meet the highest standards for attitude, attendance and appearance.  You must exemplify the Scout Oath and Law.

·        Function as a member of the Patrol Leaders Council.

Upon election

·        Make yourself available to your subordinates to help them develop and finalize their position goals.

·        Obtain semi-annual schedules from Head Instructors and Head Troop Guides, which details each training session and troop meeting.  These schedules should have the instructor or guide who will be responsible for each meeting.

·        Identify the goals for your position and for your personal advancement.  These goals will be listed as short term, three months, and long term, six months.  The goals must be measurable, achievable and meaningful.

One Time

·        Be present at the semi-annual Junior Leader Training planning conference.


Monthly

·        Participate in the Patrol Leaders Council Meetings, generally held at 6:00PM prior to the first Monday meeting of the month.

·        Report following position status:

·         The numbers of troop meetings since the last Patrol Leaders Council meeting that had full troop guides participation for each new patrol[1].
·         The numbers of troop meetings since the last Patrol Leaders Council meeting that instructors met the three two one plan[2].
·         Provide a very brief report regarding your evaluations of the success of the training program in meeting the needs of the Troop activity, and the success of the Troop Guides in supporting the needs of the new scouts[3].

Weekly

·        Record the status of the troop guides participation for each new patrol, on the quickview board.  Determine status by interviewing Head Troop Guide for each patrol.

·        Record the status of the instructors on the quickview board.  Determine status by interviewing Head Instructors for both the new scout and experienced scout patrols.

·        Support the Senior Patrol Leader in controlling the performance of the group, with specific emphasis on supporting the Troop Guides with the new scout patrols.

·        Recommend personnel changes to the Senior Patrol Leader if required.

·        Complete and maintain the Training Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders quickview form for on-going review and for reporting during the Patrol Leaders Council Meeting.

As Needed

·        Help with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the senior patrol leader.

·        Take over troop leadership in the absence of the senior patrol leader.

·        Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the senior patrol leader



[1] Troop Guide shall participate in patrol corners, inter-patrol activity time for trail to eagle advancement, at Patrol Leaders Council and for general discipline support and shall conduct evaluations with patrol leader after every meeting.  Meeting all these goals indicates a four on the board.  Remove one point for every missing step.

[2] Check with Head instructor for resources, week three before session.  Plan the session, week two before session.  Gather the materials and rehearse, week one before session.  Meet at 6:30 day of the session for dress rehearsal.  Give one point for each week of planning and one point for a successful skill session.  Each set of instructors has a potential of four points each week.

[3] Remember to focus only on the success of the Instructors and the Troop Guides, not on the troop activity itself.
